I decided to do this journal soley on the class presentation of Movie Into The Spiderverse. I wanted to give a huge shout out to my class mates Naheim, Naya, Ademola, and Khameelah. They did a great job with their power point and it properly demonstrated the amazing animation in the movie.

Into The Spiderverse

Final Journal

Bitten by a radioactive spider in the subway, Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales suddenly develops mysterious powers that transform him into the one and only Spider-Man. Miles must now use his newfound skills to battle the evil Kingpin, a hulking madman who can open portals to other universes and pull different into The Spider-Verse has an integrated aesthetic, but what really elevates the movie is how inventive it is, how vibrant it is, with visual storytelling. The visual storytelling is brilliant. I liked the movie because the way they characterized Miles is as a newbie spiderman. Watching him develop the characteristics of your typical spiderman was great to see. Going Through the multiple spider men and woman, we got to see who “spider man” represents not limiting it to a specific peter parker. The way they merged black and latino culture was great because it was not shoved down our throats unlike other movies. The culture blended in with the movie such as the hip hop and the graffiti, it was very natural and not stereotypical. The outro scene is one of my favorite scenes. The typical spiderman outro is when spiderman swings through the city heroicl, but while miles was doing this the music was R&B and it demonstrated the difference between what we typically see as spider man in Peter Parker and Miles Morales. because it merged the culture of spiderman blended with Miles culture. I really appreciated the groups comparison to Miles to Binti. Binti was one of my favorite stories and I also saw a lot of the paralles pointed out in the slide show them both being outsiders snd going through that experience. We come to understand that Miles felt like an outsider and that did not change until he met the other spidermen. One of the assignments was to reflect upon a time where I felt like an outsider. I never felt more like an outsider than my first year at Howard. This was back when things where in person. I missed Freshman week, so by the time I arrived every one was already clicked up. I am a naturally introverted so for this first month I was walking around by myself, and was very content with that. I definitely found my sense of being with a psarticular community. We were all poli sci majors who wanted to go to lawschool and it fell naturally. One is always an outsider until they meet people cut from similar cloth. Miles is my FAVORITE spiderman. By Far. And it has 100% to do with our cultures alligning. Representation in superheros is something I deeply appreciate and do not take lightly.

As this is my final journal, I would like to share my appreciation for this class as well as this course. This is a 10/10 course that I would recommend to the young and the old. I cam into this class needin gto honestly meet a Classics course requirement, and I left with knowledge I will be using for life. This course allowed me to reflect on myself through works of literature throughout time. It really goes to show how timeless and repetitive the human experience is regardless of an era. Through this course I am actively learning to become a better me and I will continue to do so. I am working on my leadership in many different forms and relationships now. My communication, my dependency on my mentors, everything has been shed to a new light. Even doing these journals as a way to be able to express myself has been extremely therapeutic. With that being said, I bid a good farewell.
